EXPERIMENT HAYWIRE: Annihilation Chic CD [Machinekunt] PDF Print E-mail

ImageThis is touted as a full length album but is in effect a mini-album such is its structure.  What you do have is effectively a one woman project, and within industrial circles it really is a bit of a rarity nowadays, slim pickings even. Rachel Haywire conjures up a raw edged version of industrial electronic music that toys with slight punk anarchist overtones topped off with a vocal approach heading down the path of what I can best describe as 'riot grrrl'.

ImageProper album number two from Mr Jason Hollis.  It's been two years since the release of 'Meta', an interesting romp that flaunted with rhythmical noise and IDM structures. A release that was as good as it could be frustrating at times I never felt that Hollis was fully capitalising on the areas that make him shine more.
Cue 'Carbon'; an interesting and enjoyable release that comfortably lets Jason toy with the styles that suit him down to the ground.

ImageCurious and more curious, 'The Institute of Random Events' is a serious oddity.    Opener 'Black Tape' set the proceedings going with what is generally a quiet affair from this act from the Netherlands.  If I am to be honest this opening number was a little bit of a damp squib that didn't appear to go anywhere, but I bedded myself down in the knowledge that albums within this field usually take a while to fire up.
Correct in my assumptions everything that can stir about Tapage starts to move with 'Lockswitch' and the beats have a drifting sense of purpose as the album sets off on its cavernous journey into the unknown.

ImageGermany's 'Integral' are a new entity to me, and a pleasing one too that suit my pallet no end.  On first listen, you notice their fondness for different aesthetics that immediately infuse a different approach to how they want to be viewed as artists.  Visually stunning artwork is usually a sure sign for me that you are going to get something quality and in this case it's the correct signal.

ImageIt's always a case of going out on a punt when a new act comes along that you know little or nothing about.  Personally I already had a lot of insight into this artist and was fairly sure what to expect but I am sure the Alaskan Lucidstatic is fairly unknown to the majority of you out there.  This, I assure you will change, sooner rather than later if this debut is anything to go by.

ImageFrom what I've heard this year, "Love no longer lives here" is by far one of the best releases, but I would like to state that this release should not be tagged as IDM or industrial or whatever. This 3rd full length album is purely ELECTRONIC Music that should and will be loved by all kind of fans who adore/like alternative or electronic scene.
I am not joking here, I cant see how someone who enjoy Massive Attack or Portishead or even the latest release of Bjork would not find "love no longer lives here" a high quality album and a nice addition to his/her collection.

ImageFor those of you who may go ‘who’ right now, Deaf Machine is the project of Mikael Svensson, the founding member of oppressive black ambient genius that is / was Megaptera.
Pretty much safe to say then that ‘Found Noises’ isn’t going to be a happy affair then, especially with track titles such as ‘Death Season’, ‘Silent Intruder’ and ‘Noise Destruction’ to play with.  Good.
Deaf Machine originated around 1991 and earned a cult following amongst the death industrial fraternity. This was a low-fi analogue response to other music producers at the time, a lash out against the use of computers keeping the perspective as natural as possible.

ImageI have never been a massive fan of the previous works of Ebola but was intrigued to see if there were any evident changes with his camp style wise since the last outing that I heard.
Much to my surprise this is something I can wholeheartedly say I appreciate and enjoy.
Opening with ‘Painkillers’ MDSV1 draws on a variety of influences and the first that came to mind is the rich sub driven warping bass sounds that I feast on from the likes of the amazing ‘Scorn’.  This is straight down that territory and holds up well against Mick Harris and co.

ImageThis up and coming label certainly do have some surprises in store if this debut release from Blackfilm is anything to go by.  Beautifully packaged in a simple unobtrusive digipak with stunning artwork certainly whetted my appetite and there was more on store when I hit ‘play’. I was half expecting the usual IDM affair. I was in for a shock.  Blackfilm is a gloriously organic journey with a different slant on the emotional pulling of heart strings.  Let me explain....

ImageA novel approach to the standard remix album.  Rather than a collection of Flint Glass works remixed by other artists, this is Gwenn’s approach to other artists within the scene.  As we know nowadays a standard remix isn’t merely changing levels on a track, it’s a complete re-work.  As such this should be a different affair to the norm, and I was very interested as to what FG would bring to the table. Having heard most of the artists on show before this did help when gathering together the different perspectives and evolutions of the tracks laid before me.
